The athletes are revolting Posted on: Wednesday 6th December 2006 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Well, not so much revolting but more trying to get their voice heard by a governing body that doesn't seem to want to listen. Back in the Summer the ITU determined that their Long Course championships should change from being the classic "Nice" distance (4k 120k 30k) to being twice the Standard distance (3k 80k 20k). This may, or may not, tie in with their various disagreements with the WTC as some of the wording in the Congress resolution relating to drugs testing and health risks could well be interpreted as being a bit of a pop at the Ironman community. [Anyone remember 2001 when the ITU ran a Long Course championship over the full Ironman distance at Fredericia?] Anyway, a whole slew of professional athletes headed up by Jonas Colting and including this year's winners Torbjorn Sindballe and Bella Comerford have started up a petition to try to persuade the ITU that their view is not shared by those who actually compete.
