Democracy in action: part 1 Posted on: Saturday 29th April 2006 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend So, the EGM has been and gone. The result? Of the 41 bodies in the room 35 were eligible to vote and current BTA members and the result was 23 for the proposals and 12 against with no abstensions. Which, because this was an item of Special Business requiring 75% of those voting to be in favour, means that the BTA's Executive Board now has to go back and come up with some proposals that are more acceptable. The two main issues that caused the rejection of the proposals were the status of Triathlon England (the current proposals mean it would have had less status that either Wales or Scotland) and the position, status and title of the proposed President. This vote against the proposals should not be seen as a defeat for the proposed modernisation plans but, rather, the next step in their development. What was on the table was simply not good enough to be imposed on the membership and, perhaps now (rather than what should have been earlier in the process) the BTA's Board will start listening to some of the issues being raised. ![]()
