Following up on the news item about London's chronic shortage of swimming pools, we have heard that the London Development Agency (LDA), which has responsibility for the Crystal Palace Sports Centre in south London, is apparently to support a £3m refurbishment of the facility's 50m pool.

According to a story in the Sports Management Report the LDA has committed itself to keeping the facility, including the athletics stadium, up and running until 2012. The option to replace the pool with a temporary one has been discounted on cost reasons but the pool will be closed for a period while the plant room is renovated. The recommendations are due to go before the LDA Board today.
