Olympic Bronze medallist Magali Messmer has been dealt a three month suspension following a positive test for salbutomol (aka Ventolin) at last year's European Championships in Autun. Messmer plans to appeal the ban on the grounds that the test may have been flawed and, as a registered asthma sufferer, she was permitted to use the drug by her National Federation. The Autun race took place under very hot conditions and the samples were actually taken the following day after another race. It is thought that her state of dehydration may have affected the results, which were actually inside the limits imposed by the World Anti-Doping Agency but 25% higher than a sample taken earlier in the year. The Swiss Federation are supporting her appeal. For more deatil see this article on the Triathlete website: www.triathletemag.com
