We thought that we had seen pretty much everything that could be dreamed up in the world of extreme sports but this one is just completely mad!

The Red Bull X-Alps challenge is an 850km crossing of the Alps from the Dachstein Glacier in Austria to a raft moored off the coast of Monaco. The rules are simple: you either paraglide and run or you run with the paraglider...

So, where's the triathlon connection? Giuseppe Minetti of fitness-testing.co.uk has been training up triathlete Aidan Bhavna to take part in the event - and Aidan has promised to write us a report on the experience although while the race is on you can track the competitors live.
