It's probably a little bit early to call this the first flush of Spring but the event calendar gets into double figures this weekend and there's a full-blown Ironman as well. The Ironman in the frame this time is, of course, Malaysia which has a fearsome reputation for being horribly hot and humid but, on the other hand, the age group fields tend not to run as deep as they would in Europe or America as a result. In 2007 the winners were Xavier Le Floch and Nicole Leder with Andrew Johns getting second place, Stephen Bayliss was sixth and Bella Comerford suffered a melt-down on the run. No British entries this year, Peter Kern from Ireland is the nearest we can get, but there is plenty of pro talent with Faris Al-Sultan, Petr Vabrousek, Byunghoon Park and Chris McDonald contesting for the men's prize and some equally stiff competition in the ladies field with Rebecca Preston, Belinda Granger, Yvonne Van Vlerken, Marilyn McDonald and Hillary Biscay. Which also means that it looks like Biscay is keeping up with the months - this is her second Ironman-distance race already this year!!

On the home front we have a couple of running races; another of the Bannatyne's Wellingborough Multi-Terrain Runs and Concept Sport's Winchester 10k. Add in a bit of swimming and you have the third of the Welsh Earlybird Aquathlon Series at Bro Dysynni Leisure Centre, the first of a series of East Grinstead Aquathlons, the Halesowen Aquathlon, the fifth of Fun2Tri's Swim Run Race Series at Nantwich's Snowhill Pool and the Taunton Deane Long and Short Foot Anstey Aquathlons. And, no, Foot Anstey isn't some odd complaint, it's the name of their sponsor... The younger competitors have their own event with the Wirral Tristar and Youth Aquathlon as well.

On the duathlon front there's just a single event, the Aberdeenshire Winter Duathlon Series's third outing at Bennachie Centre near Inverurie.

And, with the weather many degrees warmer than last weekend, there's not a triathlete in sight! What can you expect, eh? Far too warm to be running around in Speedos...
