With an ever increasing number of women taking part in triathlon a lot more thought is going into more specialist clothing for women. Trigirl, one of the leading manufactures of women's triathlon clothing, is leading the way, mixing technology with style and comfort to come up with some of the best women's triathlon clothing around, as Tri247's columnist and GB age-group triathlete, Colette O'Neill, found out.

Jessica Tank Top

Trigirl selling points for this race top are the wider shoulder straps and insert of mesh-lined “power lycra” for medium to firm bust support, plus a Coolmax® mesh ventilation panel at the rear, silicone gripper elastic hem along the bottom and concealed zip pocket.

Colette says: The silicon hem is fab for preventing any riding-up over lycra shorts even when wearing a number belt and the longer length of the top provides embarrassment-saving wobble-cover. Whilst bust support is good, I chose to also wear an additional bra which was invisible thanks to the wider shoulder straps. The concealed rear zip pocket of the top comfortably held a gel that was easily accessed during racing. The smooth fit ensured a lack of chafing under the arms which commonly occurs with various race tops.

Trigirl Jodie Tri Shorts

Selling points for these shorts are the strong support “power Lycra”, extra high back waist and Elastic Interface® women’s tri specific Italian chamois with a large concealed rear zip pocket and silicon leg hem grippers.

Colette says: The leg length of the shorts was just right to prevent any up-creep or strangled bits whilst the chamois was comfortable and protective down there. Whilst there was enough cushioning on the bike, most pleasing was the comfort on the run with no nappy-feeling to interfere with concentration. The rear pocket would be useful for gel storage in longer distance races but is well-concealed.

Overall verdict: Top Banana! This two piece looked good even before I’d put it on – when I did, the fit was great and it felt so comfortable I was unaware I was wearing it. The petrol blue and black colouring with green insert is distinct yet flattering, and the piping detail helps to visually slimline the body. Feeling like a second skin must surely be advantageous in shaving seconds off your splits. A great outfit that helped me to place second lady overall at the Human Race Bananaman – thanks Trigirl!
