Tri247 were at the Cycle Show last week looking at all the goodies on offer for the 2009 season. Here are a few things that caught our eye. More tomorrow!

Cervélo

Cervélo (www.cervelo.com), need no introduction, as they are consistently ranked as the number one bike of choice at the Hawaii Ironman, in the pro peloton, and with over 50 Ironman wins achieved on their P3C, a proven race winner. Last month at Interbike in Las Vegas, Cervélo launched their long-awaited successor, the 'P4' to much fanfare and expectation. Sigma Sport (www.sigmasport.co.uk), had the very first P4 in the country, and it proved a big draw to their stand. The cut-out in the downtube houses an aero water bottle.

P4

Cervélo were also supplier to Team CSC, and joining their stand was the very R3SL model ridden to victory in the Tour de France by Carlos Sastre this summer. It was interesting to note that he is a fan of the Rotor Q-Rings, also used by Julie Dibens.

Mavic

Mavic have a long and distinguished history in wheel building, and continue to be popular today. Two new wheels to their Cosmic Carbone range caught our eye, and we think will be of particular interest to triathletes.

Cosmic Carbone SL and SLR

The Carbone SL is the latest version of their deep-rim favourite. For 2009 they have reduced weight (1740g) and reduced cost. We were quoted a price of £720 a set for the 52mm deep-rim clinchers. With a proven history of reliability, the Mavic branding and exceptionally strong residual values, at a time when most manufacturers are putting up prices - that is a very attractive package. Infact, we think that riders may even look to trade up to the new Carbone SLR. The SLR uses the same rim-to-rim spoking technology as the top-of-the-range 'Ultimate', improved aerodynamics (due to the spoke design), over the SL, and weighs in at 1595g a set, for alloy rimmed clinchers. We were quoted £1150, which while not cheap, is still very competitive if you are looking for a set of "all conditions" race wheels. Expect to see Mavic make a big leap in market share during 2009.

Cosmic Carbone SL and SLRNew from Mavic is an entrance into the clothing and footwear markets. This includes a tri-specific shoe offering, the Tri Pro. Just 290g in weight, highly ventilated with a stiff and extremely thin carbon sole, it certainly looks good. Expect it to retail at around £149.
