![]() Nike celebrates 25 years of the Pegasus. Posted on: Friday 14th November 2008 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Nike launches Air Pegasus 25 and Air Pegasus SEIn 1983, the Nike Pegasus made its debut on the running circuit, providing runners with a shoe that was durable, comfortable and affordable. The "shoe for every runner" Pegasus has spent a quarter of a century on runner’s feet; from Bernard Lagat’s to the neighbour next door. To this day, Pegasus is Nike's all time best-selling running shoe. To mark the 25th anniversary of its release, Nike is launching two versions of the shoe, the Nike Air Pegasus 25+ and the Nike Air Pegasus SE (special edition).
Both styles feature the original waffle design, Nike's first technological innovation in running and the foundation of their obsession with lightweight running product. While grounded in its heritage, the new Pegasus models also have an eye on the future. The Nike Air Pegasus 25+ model features a new full length air-sole unit providing cushioning under foot, and is 1.4 ounces lighter than the 2007 shoe. The Nike Pegasus SE is a hybrid performance shoe with an upper sole inspired by the original Pegasus. This limited edition Pegasus also comes with a special presentation box for collectors. The Pegasus range continues to prove Nike's dedication to making consistent, dependable footwear for runners - by runners. Pegasus has experienced numerous alterations and modifications in it's life as the "shoe for every runner". Even a brief disappearance from the Nike landscape in the late 1990s didn't diminish interest in this iconic Nike shoe. Thousands of runners reached out to Nike via emails letters and phone calls, asking for the shoe they'd fallen in love with years ago and hoping that the Pegasus would be restored. Nike has also launched a range of limited edition Pegasus apparel to celebrate the 25th anniversary, consisting of a t-shirt, hoody and long sleeved top. Available for both men and women in one colour-way, each item features the iconic 'Pegasus' logo. Named after the majestic winged horse of Greek mythology, Pegasus was intended to represent movement, quickness, and the allure of flying on Air.
