![]() Olympian James Cracknell lends support to new Windsor triathlon club Posted on: Wednesday 26th November 2008 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Double Olympic gold medalist, James Cracknell lent his support to the launch of the Evolution Triathlon Club (www.evotri.co.uk) in Windsor on Friday 21st November and accepted his honorary membership. Until now, Windsor has not had its own dedicated triathlon club despite hosting one of the largest and most popular triathlons in the UK. Kevin Wallace, Chairman of Evolution Tri Club comments "creating a dedicated triathlon club for the people in and around Windsor has been a dream of mine for several years. It's hard to believe that until now the town hasn't actually had its own club. Our aim is to attract people of all levels who want an alternative approach to getting fit, having fun and meeting like-minded people. I hope that having James Cracknell affiliated with our club will show our members just what is achievable with a little dedication." James has become an honorary member of the club, shared some of his knowledge of the sport with members and also joined in the clubs first triathlon specific spin class. He is a keen triathlete and in July 2008 won the SiS Dorney Steelman Triathlon qualifying him for the 2009 European Championships. However, James' next extreme challenge is the Amundsen Omega3 South Pole Race where he, along with Ben Fogle, will race against nine other teams to be the first to reach the South Pole in Antarctica around mid January 2009. Membership to the club is open to everyone from beginners to experienced athletes and will provide a weekly programme of training and development across all three disciplines. Club members will be able to enjoy benefits such as coached pool sessions, free entry to open water swimming at Heron Lake (in season), triathlon specific spin classes at The Windsor Club, weekly running club, brick training and outdoor cycling sessions. Plus of course, a programme of social events and all the support and motivational encouragement needed when the going gets tough. Monthly membership payments ensure full access to the comprehensive training programme. New members receive a piece of branded club kit, an Evolution Advantage Card offering a range of discounts at related local businesses and triathlon suppliers plus a goody bag. Wallace adds "with the level of commitment club members have towards their training and triathlon goals, it is important to give them the best quality and highest level of support. We are already working towards our STAR mark accreditation to ensure we offer the best standards across our club management, coaching, sports ethics or health and safety. I believe it is important to demonstrate to our members that we are committed to making their training experience with us the best it can be. I want to differentiate our club in every way possible and excel at whatever we do, whether it be our club ethos, our training schedules, our club events, coaches or other aspects. We have a small band of volunteers managing all these elements who are dedicated to fulfilling and exceeding our club member experience." For those who are new to the sport of triathlon and want to get a feel for it first, a trial month is available for £25 offering the chance to meet other club members, the coaches and get hooked by the bug.
