Happily the adverse weather conditions had little effect on the racing and fast times were recorded over the accurately measured 3.8km course. From the gun it was swimmer-turned-triathlete Ben Carter who powered into a commanding lead. Ben was never really challenged throughout the swim, finishing in an excellent time of 46min 53 seconds. Swim For Tri's, Dan Bullock (48min 18sec) secured second place, just ahead of veteran competitor Peter Dixon who finished in a very respectable time of 48 min 30sec. Joanna Swallow, who placed 4th at the first event in the series at South Cerney, won the ladies event in 53min 35sec, comfortably clear of second placed Jennifer Frost (56min 12sec). Third place went to junior swimmer Claire Hayward in 57min 06sec. Joanna's consistent results in the series make the her leading lady so far and leaves her in pole position to win the overall women's prize for the series. In the men's competition, Ben Carter and race one winner, Tim Room, are both well placed for a shot at the overall prize. Round three of the series moves to Bournemouth on the beautiful Dorset coast on August 9th. A competitive field and fast times are again expected as swimmers take on the unique challenge of ocean swimming. The final round of the swim series takes place at Dorney Lake on September 6th.
