Scott Neyedli will be a happy man today. As well as taking second place at Ironman Western Australia in a new personal best time, he also managed to regain the Scottish Iron-distance record.

Prior to today, Graeme Stewart's time of 8:23:39 recorded this year at Quelle Challenge Roth was the leading mark, but now Neyedli - the Ironman UK winner from 2007 - is now the fastest Scot with his 8:17:48 in Busselton.

Scott said of his performance in Busselton "I had a really good day. I had seen this race on television before and it was always a race I wanted to give a crack."

His time is also one of the fastest ever times by a Briton. The British record is currently held by Stephen Bayliss (8:13:53, Ironman Austria 2008), and from memory we can only think of Spencer Smith (8:15:39, Ironman Brazil 2002) and Julian Jenkinson (8:15:21, Euro Champs Detern/Jumme 1995) as other Brits with a faster time recorded than Scott.

Having recently lost his Commerzbank Triathlon Team sponsorship for the 2010 season, this result couldn't have come at a better time. Great work Scott!
