Who were the speedy amateur athletes at IRONMAN UK Bolton on Sunday?

We’ve reported on the Pro’s separately (HERE), – but how did the Age-Groupers get on Sunday at IRONMAN UK? in many cases, exceptionally…

As you’ll now doubt be aware (details HERE), the 2018 edition of the race in Bolton featured a 95-mile rather than 112-mile bike course, the result of enforced changes due to the recent and ongoing fires wildfires in the region. Thus, any comparison of overall times is meaningless to previous years… but here, were are interested in positions.

Starting with the women, the fastest Age-Group athlete overall – and she almost lead the entire day, with the second fastest swim time – was Rebecca Rimmington. Now if that names sounds familiar, ‘Bex’ was selected earlier this year as one of the four athletes on the inaugural Specialized Zwift Academy Triathlon Team. This was also her first Ironman start – and she will now be relieved that the faith that the Zwift team put in their ‘wild card’ selection has been proven a good one. Bex also hosted one of out TRI247 Workout Series Wednesday rides.

The fastest Age-Group male this year was Neil Eddy. Neil had a great race earlier this year at IRONMAN Lanzarote, but even finishing with a 2:52 marathon that day was not enough to secure his Kona slot. No such worries now, he is going back to Hawaii again. The second fastest Age-Group male was Robert Drake, who finished just 3:05 behind Neil. With both in the same category, second overall also means ‘only’ (!) second in Age-Group for Robert.

Here are the overall top five AG times, followed by all of the category winners.
