31.71 miles/hour for Paul Hart over 50-miles

Just a week after Marcin Bialoblocki broke the Competition Record for 25-miles with a staggering time of 42:58 on the notoriously fast (and net downhill) R25/3H course in South Wales, the ever-increasing speeds on the domestic time trial scene continued with another record this weekend, with new best figures for 50-miles.

Held since 2014 by Matthew Bottrill (who has raced triathlon events himself in recent years, and coach to the likes of Tim Don, Will Clarke, Lucy Charles and Susie Cheetham), the previous best was 1:34:43 – set on his 37th birthday – from the BDCA event on the A50/6 course in June 2014.

On Saturday, the ECCA 50 event, held on the E2/50c course near Newmarket, saw Paul Hart cut six seconds from Matt’s best to stop the clock at 1:34:37. That’s riding five, 10-mile TT’s back-to-back in a fraction over 18:55.

The Triathlete connection

Paul was a GB Age-Group duathlete, racing in Horst aan de Maas at the ETU Champs in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Bronze medallist over the Sprint distance in 2014, he won the Powerman Long Distance Champs in his 35-39 Age-Group a year later.

In 2015 he also finished 11th overall at the Outlaw Half Nottingham.

Today I broke a National record‘ was the title of his Strava file from Saturday’s ride.
