Beth Potter confirmed on YouTube that she will compete for a world championship title in her final race before the Olympics, with the 32-year-old on the start line for WTCS Hamburg.

Competing over the super sprint distance, the reigning world champion will get the chance to test her fitness and race sharpness one final time before the ‘Big Dance’ at the end of the month.

Third at WTCS Cagliari in her first Olympic distance race of the season, the Commonwealth Games medalist also shared her thoughts on what the podium finish in Italy means for the next few weeks.

One final test

After winning the supertri E world triathlon championship in April, Potter opted to skip WTCS Yokohama and instead focus her attention on racing in Sardinia at the end of May.

Racing over the Olympic distance for the first time since winning her maiden world title in Pontevedra, Potter was happy with third, but hopes to get a little more out of WTCS Hamburg after a rollercoaster build into Cagliari.

“At the moment we are about four and a half weeks out from my next WTCS race in Hamburg, and that will be my final race before the Olympics.

“Cagliari was really good and I actually had a bit of a bumpy buildup into that. I had a cold leading into it and I wasn’t 100% sure how it was going to go.

“I’d had an interrupted block of training, especially on the run side of things, but it was good to get a race under my belt.”

The finishing touches

Having won the Paris Test Event last summer, Potter is the favourite for gold again in July, but will need to improve on her race in Cagliari.

However, after a strong swim and bike, Potter rightly remains confident of her chances, and underlined that a few finishing touches on the run should have her ready to rock.

“I’m happy with where things are at. My swim and bike are in the right place and I‘ve got time to tweak the running now so all is good.

“It was all really positive and I’m satisfied with where I’m at. I’ve got 7-8 weeks to go now until Paris and I think that I’m in a good place.”
