The Zwift experience with Joe Skipper – Wednesday 20th December
The second night of the TRI247 Winter Series on Zwift got off to a shaky start. With a good number of riders in the holding area waiting to take on Joe Skipper’s “Burner” workout, there was plenty of nervous energy and a good bit of banter between riders before the off. As soon as the ride started, it was clear though that something wasn’t right… and it looked like the custom workout had not been loaded up to Zwift correctly.
Although not ideal, it was far from a disaster, and kudos to Joe Skipper who responded like Gabby Logan on Sports Personality of the Year, and led the ride by giving out instructions while we were riding.
What did we learn from it? Well:
- Keep calm and carry on.
- While waiting for the group ride to start, the workout plan should display on the left of the screen so you can see the details of the ride ahead. Next time we will make sure it’s there before heading off.
- Joe Skipper’s “Burner” session was a cracker.
- The group workout function is much more fun when you all ride together. We did get a bit strung out and I got lapped at least once!
- The TRI247 Winter Series rides are good fun!
“Thanks guys and thanks to everyone for the session I wouldn’t want to have done that by myself.” – Joe Skipper

Yesterday I led a group workout on @gozwift it consisted of 10 minutes 3m rest, 5*3m with 90s rest 2m after the last one, then 10 minutes to finish off. Here’s the data from the meet of the session. Be good to do another one of these again, great fun and good motivation to get a hard session done.
Due to the technical issue encountered we are looking to run the workout with Joe again in the New Year, when you can have a proper go at the ‘Burner’. We will give you ample warning as you don’t want to miss out on this session.
The next session?
Next up in the TRI247 Winter Series is going to be headlined by the one and only Duracell Bunny: nine times iron-distance champion, Lucy Gossage.
The session will be held on Wednesday 27th December at 7.00pm UK time** and will be the perfect way to burn off some of the Christmas excess. So, please do join us. If you are not on Zwift yet, then details below on how to RIDE ON!
(** As well as winning Ironman races, Lucy is also an active Cancer Doctor and is working on Wednesday; so, if Lucy gets caught up at work, she may have to join us a bit later on!)
