It’s been announced that a combination of on-the-day telephone voting and online voting via a BBC account will determine the winner of this year’s Sports Personality of the Year award tonight (Tuesday December 17).
Alex Yee is a strong contender for triathlon after an incredible year which saw him become both Olympic and world champion.
Yee’s come-from-behind victory over Hayden Wilde has already been named Team GB’s Moment of the Games following a public vote.
And he’s now on a shortlist of six incredible athletes for the prestigious BBC award.
Who else is on the shortlist?
Up against him are two others who also had a memorable time in Paris – Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson and para cycling legend Dame Sarah Storey.

Also in the reckoning are darts sensation Luke Littler, Real Madrid and England soccer star Jude Bellingham and England cricket great Joe Root.
The latest odds from bookmakers Skybet make Hodgkinson the odds-on favourite at 2/5 ahead of Littler (2/1), Root (50/1), Yee (66/1) and Bellingham and Storey (both 100/1).
So it’s nearly time to get behind Alex as he bids for unprecedented triathlon recognition.
The closest we have had to a triathlon SPOTY winner was the great Alistair Brownlee back in 2016 – he finished second behind tennis legend Andy Murray.
How to vote
Voting has now closed for BBC SPOTY 2024.
