Youth and Juniors

The British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series witnesses the best of Britain’s up and coming athletes collect points across six events over the year. Athletes’ highest three scores are considered, with the series’ top performers awarded the overall title.

The 2017 series will kick off with the British Duathlon Championships on Sunday 9 April, hosted by Nicetri Events’ Bedford Autodrome Duathlon. Little over a month later, on Saturday 13 May athletes will head to Wales for Sospan Sprint Triathlon Llanelli, organised by Healthy Life Activities. The junior race also doubles as an ETU Triathlon European Championship qualifier.

Saturday 10 June will see Britain’s youth and junior athletes return to Roundhay Park for the second consecutive year as Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds takes over the city for a weekend of non-stop triathlon action. 2016 witnessed athletes compete in an aquathlon, but 2017 will see them take on all three disciplines for the second triathlon of the series. No doubt, the event will play host to another clash of talent as athletes battle for those sought-after points to add their series tally.
July brings another jam-packed month of triathlon action with Super Tri, hosted by Human Race Events taking place on Saturday 1 July before Ryton Tri Club’s Hetton Lyons event on 29-30 July. Both are exciting new additions to the series calendar and will provide a fresh challenge for Britain’s youth and junior athletes.

As in previous years, the British Triathlon Under 20’s Festival will close the 2017 British Triathlon Super Series on Monday 28 August at Mallory Park, doubling up as the British Elite Youth and Junior Triathlon Championships. With the addition of the Inter-Regional Championships, the event is a true showcase of Great Britain’s rising triathlon stars.

Senior Elite

But the opportunities don’t stop there. Elite senior athletes will also be in the battle for British titles in 2017, making their first appearance at Bedford Autodrome Duathlon in a bid for British Duathlon honours in April. They return to the competitive stage on Sunday 4 June for the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon, where the race will be on for a British Senior Elite Triathlon Championship title. Juniors will have the ability to race alongside the seniors in Blenheim, all in contention for the senior title. On this occasion, the youth race in Blenheim is open to 15, 16 and 17 year olds as the race acts as a qualifier for the ETU Triathlon Youth European Championships Festival.

Furthermore, Always Aim High’s Cardiff Triathlon on Sunday 25 June along with Super Tri in July also provide sprint distance opportunities for junior and senior athletes. Those looking to test themselves over the standard distance can look forward to IMG’s AJ Bell London Triathlon, open to both juniors and seniors on Sunday 23 July.

Jack Buckner, British Triathlon CEO, said: “We are delighted to announce an exciting elite competition calendar for 2017, featuring both familiar racing opportunities alongside a selection of new additions which will provide some fresh challenges for athletes across Great Britain over the next 12 months.

“We’re working with a number of top event organisers to provide a high level of domestic competition to showcase the fantastic talent we have in this country and can now look toward the coming season with great anticipation.”
