The new man tasked with bringing further Olympic success to the British Triathlon team has pledged his support to both athletes and coaches so that they can ‘deliver when it matters most’.
Danny Kerry MBE will take over the role of performance director at British Triathlon later this summer, determined to ensure a strong, deep talent pool is developed, helping Team GB remain competitive for many years to come.
While his immediate focus will no doubt be on ensuring targets are met ahead of LA28, he is also focused on sustaining world-leading standards through to 2032 when the Games move on to Brisbane, Australia.
Extensive Olympic experience to his name
With 18 years’ experience and five Olympic cycles already under his belt in a career which has seen him deliver success across a wide range of disciplines, he has now been tempted away from his position as the coaching lead at UK Sport to take on a new challenge.
Prior to working with UK Sport, Kerry spent time as both performance director and head coach at England Hockey, where he led teams to multiple medal-winning performances; he has also provided consultancy services to a wide range of national sporting bodies across leadership, planning and high-performance cultures.

His new role will see him lead British Triathlon’s performance strategy across its Olympic and Paralympic world-class programmes as well as developing an integrated pathway programme across the home nations, with a focus on strengthening medal potential for LA 2028, Brisbane 2032 and future cycles.
Kerry said: “I am hugely excited by the opportunity to join British Triathlon and its athletes and staff in their endeavours. British Triathlon is a world leader, and the challenge now is to sustain that incredible standard while continuing to evolve.
Delivering when it matters most
“This is a programme with outstanding athletes, coaches and support teams, and I recognise the responsibility that comes with helping them thrive on the world stage.
“My focus will be on continuing to create clarity, alignment and responsibility across the performance system, supporting athletes and coaches to deliver when it matters most, and building the depth required to keep British Triathlon competitive across multiple cycles.”
Kerry will be taking over from Mike Cavendish, who, over his eight-year tenure, has led multiple successful performances across Olympic and Paralympic programmes, with medal-winning performances at Tokyo and Paris as well as World Triathlon events.
‘Clarity needed to succeed on global stage’
Ruth Daniels, CEO of British Triathlon, said: “We are delighted with Danny’s appointment. He brings outstanding experience of leading people, programmes and systems at the highest level of sport and a winning mindset with strong values and integrity. His appointment strengthens both our performance and executive leadership as we look towards LA 2028 and beyond.
“I’d also like to thank Mike Cavendish, who has built a brilliant programme for Danny to now take forward, and we wish him every success in his new role at UKSI (UK Sports Institute).”
Debbie Clarke, Chair of British Triathlon, added: “British Triathlon’s strategic focus is to continue to develop and support world-class athletes through a world-class performance programme, and Danny’s appointment is an important step in continuing to deliver that strategy.
“His experience in building high-performing teams and aligning complex systems will help ensure our athletes have the environment, support and clarity they need to succeed on the global stage.”
