August 1 was decision day and Olympic silver medallist Hayden Wilde has announced that he WILL make his comeback from serious injury at T100 London next weekend.

The Kiwi superstar had started the season in brilliant style, winning both WTCS Abu Dhabi in February and then T100 Singapore in April in what was his first attempt at that format.

But at the start of May things came to a shocking halt when he was hit by a truck while out riding in Japan, the potentially career-ending crash left him with a punctured lung, six broken ribs, and a smashed-up scapula on his left shoulder.

‘London’s calling’

So it was little short of remarkable when he recently revealed that his return could be imminent, explaining: “I’m in a pretty good place; there is definitely a lot of fire in the belly to try and line up in London.

“I think having a little bit of a forced rest period and watching everyone race makes me hungry to get back on the start line.”

The start of August was set as the time to make that call and he was good to his word when he posted the news that everyone wanted to hear.

He said: “London’s calling seeing you there 🎡🇬🇧”

Stacked start lists

His presence in London adds to the attraction of what promise to be two fantastic races.

All three men’s winners so far this season – Wilde in Singapore, Rico Bogen from San Francisco and Jelle Geens, who won the last race in Vancouver, line up. As does American star Sam Long, who is currently based in Europe and is a late addition to the start list.

For the women there’s a fascinating British challenge on home soil, which includes the likes of Lucy Charles-Barclay and triathlon’s most decorated female athlete Georgia Taylor-Brown, who makes her T100 debut.

And again all three winners so far lock horns – Kate Waugh, Julie Derron and Taylor Knibb.

And the latest episode in Wilde’s ‘Road To Recovery’ YouTube series has just dropped too – so you can catch up on how he’s feeling via the video embed below.
