IRONMAN 70.3 New York will not take place on Saturday as men’s pro race moves to Augusta

A coastal storm has forced IRONMAN to call off Saturday’s race at Jones Beach, with the male pros added to Sunday’s Augusta event

IRONMAN 70.3 New York will not take place at Jones Beach on Saturday 26 September because of a coastal storm affecting the region.

IRONMAN said it made the decision after consulting local authorities, emergency management officials and public safety agencies. It has left open the possibility of rescheduling the event.

“The anticipated conditions present risks that cannot be mitigated to the standards required to safely operate the event,” the organiser said. Registered athletes will receive a separate communication about their options, including any potential new date and registration alternatives.

New York pros offered Augusta start

New York had been set to stage a professional men’s (only) race for the first time since the event began in 2023.

But following the weather decision, IRONMAN confirmed that the men’s pro division would instead join Sunday’s IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta field in Georgia which originally just had a female pro field.

An updated Augusta start list includes Jackson Laundry, Ari Klau and Nicholas Chase among those making the switch. The field remains subject to change as athletes travel south ahead of Saturday’s 1pm pro briefing.

Lionel Sanders had been assigned the number one bib for New York but does not appear on the Augusta list supplied so far.

The late addition of the men’s field has pushed Augusta’s start schedule back by ten minutes. The male pros are now due off at 7:15am local time (12:15pm BST), with the women pros following at 7:25am (12:25pm BST).

Augusta men’s start list

Here is the quickly-constructed Augusta start list but it is very much subject to change as it would be a surprise if that many athletes make the trip at such short notice.
