The last three winners of the women’s IRONMAN World Championship are all on the start list which has just been announced for IRONMAN Hamburg on 7 June.

The women’s only pro race was one of the highlights of last season as Germany’s Laura Philipp and Britain’s Kat Matthews fought out an epic battle and also threatened to break the eight-hour barrier for the first time.

And not far behind was Norway’s Solveig Løvseth who registered the fastest-ever time by an IRONMAN debutant and would go on to win the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

Both Philipp, the IMWC in 2024, and Løvseth return to the German city this year – and they could be joined by 2023 Kona heroine Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR) pending the outcome of her race at IRONMAN Lanzarote this weekend.

And it’s not just about those three either – Marjolaine Pierré (FRA) will toe the line following victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Aix-en-Provence last Sunday, while other strong contenders include Lisa Perterer (AUT), Holly Lawrence (GBR), India Lee (GBR) and Lotte Wilms (NLD).

Acting as the European Championship race for professional women, IRONMAN Hamburg will be the sixth stop of the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series, with the men’s European Championship taking place in Frankfurt on 28 June.

And there is bound to be huge speculation as to whether the winner can become the first woman to go under the eight-hours mark for a full-distance triathlon.

Last year Philipp set an IRONMAN triathlon best time of 8:03:13 as she stormed to her second victory in the city.

Løvseth clocked 8:12:28 and has since gone from strength to strength, running out a brilliant winner of IRONMAN Texas in April.
