The IRONMAN World Championship is the event every elite triathlete wants to win, but first they have to make sure they are among the qualifiers.

Historically held in Kailua-Kona, on the west coast of Hawaii Island (‘The Big Island’), the race brings together the very best long-distance triathletes on the planet to compete for the coveted title.

In 2023, the men and women’s races were split between two venues, with Lucy Charles-Barclay winning in Kona and Sam Laidlow taking the title in Nice, France. This year, the men will race in Kona with the women competing in Nice.

Previous winners of the IRONMAN World Championship within the past five years will receive exceptions to race at the 2024 IRONMAN World Championship, and will be required to validate their slots by completing a validation race.

Athletes who finished on the podium at the 2023 IRONMAN World Championship will also receive exemptions to race at the 2024 IRONMAN World Championship, and will be required to validate their slots.

The 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 World Champions will also receive exemptions to race upon validation, with IRONMAN also reserving the right to invite the 2024 Olympic Champions to participate in Kona or Nice.
