Three-time Olympic medallist Jonny Brownlee recorded a respectable 26th overall finish at the Bath Half Marathon at the weekend in a time of 1:10:32 as his preparations continue for the 2025 triathlon season.

The 34-year-old, who is set to race a couple of middle-distance events – including Challenge Mogán-Gran Canaria on April 25 – to start the new campaign before focusing on the supertri series, has already stated that his upcoming season is mostly for enjoyment after “taking it too seriously” over the last couple of years.

And in that context, Jonny has been dipping his toe into individual sport racing as opposed to swim, bike, run in the early salvos of his 2025 escapades.

Over 12,000 join Brownlee in Bath

The Bath Half Marathon hosted over 12,000 athletes on the day, with some of Britain’s fastest half-marathon runners such as Jake Smith and Dewi Griffiths in attendance.

Brownlee set off at a ferocious pace, hitting 15:15 for the first 5K at a stunning 3:03k/pace – which would have had him in contention for a top-five finish on the day over the full distance.

However, the triathlon superstar gradually dropped his pace, crossing the line 26th overall. Brownlee will likely now turn his attention back to the multi-sport disciplines ahead of the supertri season.

It is already confirmed that the younger Brownlee brother will compete at the supertri E World Triathlon Championships on Saturday, April 5 in a field which will also contain Olympic bronze medallist Dorian Coninx, British upstart Hugo Milner and defending champion Chase McQueen.

What’s ahead for Jonny in 2025?

Brownlee said in January that he wanted to “do something different” to start the year before entering a couple of middle-distance races before the supertri season begins in July with trips to Long Beach (USA), Chicago (USA), Kerville (USA) and Toulouse (FRA).

With a late-April-June window to compete a pair of middle-distance races, he could potentially rock up on the IRONMAN Pro Series at European-based events – 70.3 Venice-Jesolo on May 4 or 70.3 Aix-En-Provence on May 18. IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea on 13 July would likely clash with his supertri exploits.

Non-Pro Series options include IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia on April 27, 70.3 Kraichgau on May 25, 70.3 Switzerland or 70.3 Tours Métropole on June 1 or 70.3 Warsaw on June 8.

Jonny has, however, been confirmed as one of the professional athletes at Challenge Mógan-Gran Canaria on April 26, a race he completed in 2022. He will face the likes of Joao Ferrerira (POR), Andi Dreitz (GER) and Victor Alexander (BEL).

There are other options on the Challenge Family circuit including Challenge Salou (May 11), The Championship (May 18) and St Polten (May 25).
