British triathlon star shares pregnancy news and admits ‘2025 is going to be a little different’

Lucy shared the exciting news on her Instagram channel
Last updated -

Three-time IRONMAN 70.3 victor Lucy Buckingham is preparing for an entirely new challenge ahead of the 2025 season. The former Olympian announced the wonderful news that she is expecting her first child with husband Mark.

The 32-year-old, a member of the BMC Pro Triathlon Team, has struggled with injuries over the past few years. She suffered a potentially career ending back injury in 2022 and then was hit by a car while leading IRONMAN 70.3 Bahrain in November 2023.

Her 2024 campaign was also curtailed by an ailment as she competed just twice on the T100 series before an MRI scan revealed a stress response in her lessor trochanter.

The British triathlete now faces a further stint on the sidelines, although this time for a much happier reason.

“A massive shout out to @hoka_eu & @t100triathlon for their continued support during my athlete/pregnancy journey & a big big thank you to @bmcprotri for their belief & support in me over the last couple of years too.

“Whilst racing is off the cards for the next few months, I’ll be doing some coaching & really excited to support the next generation of British athletes on their journey.”

Congratulations from the Tri World

The popular triathlete received a plethora of well wishes from her fellow competitors.
