Sam Dickinson, Olympic medallist and rising T100 star, has suffered an injury setback and will be on the sidelines for at least the next couple of months.
He produced a stellar leg to help Team GB to the bronze medal in the Olympics Mixed Relay in Paris in 2024 in what was a sensational three-way photo finish.
And since then he’s made his mark at middle distance – he’s not been outside the top eight in his last 12 races and had his best T100 result last time out when runner up to the almost unbeatable Hayden Wilde in Singapore.
‘Possible fracture’
Next up should have been T100 San Francisco but that is now off the agenda and so too is WTCS London, a huge blow as the top tier of triathlon returns to his home country not long after the next Olympic qualifying window opens.
He explained the current situation on Instagram: “🚨 Injury update 🚨
“Going into @t100triathlon Singapore I could feel a pain in my foot, I had joint irritation in January which calmed down, so I was hoping this was a similar issue.
“It wasn’t. After the race I went straight in for a scan – Grade 4 bone stress (possible fracture) along the 2nd metatarsal.
“The path to the top is never linear and unfortunately I’ll have to miss San Francisco T100 and my home WTCS London. For now my mindset is to rehab as hard as I normally train and I’ll be back soon ❤️🩹”
Six of the best
All of which underlines what a performance it was in Singapore and we wish Sam well with his recovery.
In terms of the T100 San Francisco start list, the top six in the PTO’s ‘world’ rankings all still line up as #1 Wilde faces #2 Jelle Geens (BEL), #3 Mika Noodt (GER), #4 Rico Bogen (GER), who won last year, #5 Morgan Pearson (USA) and #6 Marten Van Riel (BEL).
