The 2026 T1 Liévin World Triathlon Indoor Cup, which had been scheduled to take place on March 7th, has been postponed.
The format has been hugely popular in recent years and in 2025 it saw a collaboration between World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) as it was rebranded the T1 Liévin World Triathlon Indoor Cup.
Taking place at the Arena Stade Couvert Liévin in northern France its unique format sees athletes swim 200m in a purpose-built 25m swimming pool in the middle of the arena, before a 2.8km bike leg and a 1km run.
It’s fast and furious and played out in front of a crowd of 5,000, with a series of heats building towards a grand final.
Stars light up Liévin
Many of the sport’s biggest names have taken part and last year was no exception with Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand delighting home fans by winning the women’s title while subsequent T100 champion Hayden Wilde was the star attraction on the men’s side.
However World Triathlon, the Local Organising Committee of the Liévin Triathlon Indoor Festival and the PTO issued a statement which read they “regret to announce the postponement of the 2026 T1 Liévin World Triathlon Indoor Cup”.
It explained: “Despite conversations with all the local stakeholders and a thorough review of all possible solutions to continue with the original date, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event, as we would not have been able to deliver the experience to the high standards we’ve set previously in Liévin and which our athletes, partners and spectators expect. We also don’t want to compromise the long‑term sustainability of the project.
“The T1 Liévin World Cup was one of the successes of the 2025 season, offering athletes a unique and spectacular racing experience in an indoor arena and quickly becoming a favourite among fans. The energy in the venue and the strong television audiences underlined its popularity with spectators both onsite and watching around the world, confirming Liévin as a reference point for innovative triathlon events.
“Not being able to welcome the triathlon community to Liévin in March is a very difficult decision for everyone involved in the event. The LOC, World Triathlon and the PTO would like to sincerely thank athletes, coaches, National Federations, partners, volunteers and fans for their understanding, loyalty and continued support.”
Hope for the future
It means that the two highest-profile indoor triathlon events won’t be taking place as planned this year, Supertri having already announced that they are pausing their Supertri E world championship in 2026 after the decision by the International Olympic Committee to cancel its Esports Games.
However it is hoped that the T1 Liévin World Triathlon Indoor Cup will be back next year, with the statement adding: “All parties remain fully committed to indoor triathlon in Liévin and will work together to explore options to reschedule the event in the future, with the ambition of returning with an edition that lives up to the passion and commitment shown by the community.”
