There was lovely news from the triathlon world on Sunday when Jonny Brownlee, one of the sport’s most recognisable names and popular figures, announced that he and his wife Fi have become parents for the first time.
Brownlee has the full set of Olympic medals – gold in the Mixed Team Relay from Tokyo, silver in Rio and bronze on that unforgettable day at London 2012 when his brother Alistair won the first of his two Olympic titles.
Jonny was in race action at Supertri Toulouse not long before the birth of baby Freddie but made it back just in time and gave a heart-warming update on Instagram.
‘Here’s to the next chapter’
Jonny wrote: “Freddie Barney Brownlee – 08/10/25 💙 Life feels complete 🌍
“Freddie made an early entrance into the world at 36 weeks. I made it back from Toulouse just in time (but not enough to take my race numbers off – 11 11 is lucky right?!) However timed it perfectly for my offseason. Thanks mate!! In true Fi fashion, her waters broke on a dog walk 🐾
“Finally home after 10 days at St James whilst Freddie recovered from jaundice. So much respect for the midwives, nurses and doctors – just incredible and so supportive. Fi has taken to motherhood amazingly well and Pip adores Freddie…except when he cries. Think she was ready to pack her bags last night 😂
“I haven’t slept much in the last week, but I don’t care. I used to stress out if a missed an afternoon nap! My love for the little man is incredible. Cannot wait for all the adventures we will have as a family and for all the Leeds games!!! 💙💛

Happy days
When we spoke to Jonny just before Supertri Jersey in September he was busy putting the finishing touches to the nursery as well as attending antenatal classes and everyone here at TRI247 sends their warmest congratulations to both him and Fi!
