Sprint Triathlon Championships complete 2018 British Triathlon Age-Group Major Events Calendar

Woodhorn Museum Triathlon has been awarded the 2018 British Age-Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships, confirming a packed calendar of events for age-group triathletes to look forward to over the coming 12 months.

The event, organised by VO2Max Racing Events, is well-established, having previously hosted Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification events under its former title of QE2 Sprint Triathlon. Taking place on 15 July 2018, the course boasts a single-lap freshwater lake swim, followed by a bike and run route along the Northumbria coastline and museum grounds adjacent to Northumberland’s QE2 Country Park.

Neil Jefferson, Director of VO2Max Racing Events, said: “We are very much looking forward to hosting the 2018 British Age-Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships. This will give a massive boost to triathlon in the North East and we are very pleased that the Woodhorn Museum venue has been selected.

“Woodhorn Museum is a Scheduled Ancient monument and here you can discover over 800 years of history and a range of fantastic events, activities and exhibits for all the family. It has everything needed to make this a superb family day out.”

Due to changes in venue availability, a number of amendments have been made to the Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification events calendar, adding a number of new locations in 2018 for athletes compete for a sought-after Great Britain tri suit.

All events selected are of the highest quality and offer some fantastic racing opportunities for athletes throughout the upcoming season.

The 2018 British Triathlon Age-Group Major Events calendar was unveiled earlier this month alongside the announcement of the 2018 Triathlon England National Championships, offering Triathlon England members five opportunities to compete for a national title next year. The Triathlon England Club Relay Championships will to be added to the roster in the coming months, with details of the event still to be confirmed.
