Will Clarke: “The Sub-8 barrier is always a buzz”

Chatting with Will Clarke at Sands Beach, Lanzarote

“I’m fresh. Fresh mind, fresh body… and feeling really confident”

Olympian, World Champion, Commonwealth Games athlete, IRONMAN 70.3 winner and IRONMAN podium finisher; Will Clarke has pretty much been there and done it as far as a professional triathlon goes.

Paul Shanley sat down with Will last week at Sand Beach resort (www.sandsbeachactive.com), Lanzarote, a regular destination for Will and his BMC-Vifit Sport Pro Triathlon team. After a broken collar bone ruled him out of racing at Hawaii in 2017, Will was in confident and motivated mood ahead of the 2018 season.

He chatted to Paul about his recovery, being in a ‘better place’ than 2017, being coached by Matt Bottrill, racing plans for 2018… and Alistair Brownlee’s prospects of “smashing it up” when he races IRONMAN.

“I trained with Alistair Brownlee in December… I think he’s the most talented triathlete that there’s ever been. I expect him to be really good in whatever he does.”
