Saturday’s Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria just added another marquee name to the start list, as two-time and defending IRONMAN Champion, Daniela Ryf, confirms that she will also be racing at an event that will feature the half-distance debut of the two-time Olympic Champion, Alistair Brownlee.

Here is the full Challenge Family confirmation.

Challenge Family is thrilled to announce that the reigning women’s Ironman world champion, Daniela Ryf, has confirmed her place on the start line of this year’s Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria, marking her first Challenge triathlon since winning Challenge Roth in July last year.

Daniela will race in Mogán, Gran Canaria, on 22nd April 2017 with competitors from around the world. Her revelation follows fellow triathlete Alistair Brownlee’s recent announcement that he will use this year’s Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria to debut his long-distance triathlon career.

The exceptional Swiss triathlete is an undeniable leading force in women’s long-distance triathlon and by no means a stranger to Challenge Family races. Daniela has enjoyed several triumphs in recent years, having previously gained first place in 2015 at Challenge Fuerteventura and Challenge Dubai, and last year claiming the title at Challenge Roth.

Commenting on Daniela’s participation in this year’s race, Challenge Family CEO, Zibi Szlufcik, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Daniela Ryf back to the Challenge Family races to take part in her first Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria. She is a terrific triathlete and there is no doubt that with the reigning Ironman world champion in our midst, excitement will certainly be at an all-time high in Gran Canaria for both the spectators and competitors.”

Daniela started her successful career on the ITU circuit, which culminated in two Olympic appearances in 2008 and 2012. Then, with the direction and guidance of legendary triathlon coach, Brett Sutton, Daniela made the transition to long-distance racing in 2014, and has since gone on to become one of the most dominant forces in women’s triathlon.

With an impressive number of victories to her name, Daniela will no doubt be looking to continue her winning streak at Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria.

Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria is the opening Challenge race in the European season. With an impressive terrain featuring unspoiled peaks and valleys, in addition to the minimum temperature of 22 degrees celsius all year round, the venue is set to provide competitors with a diverse, challenging, and fair race for all.
