Things are hotting up ahead of the PTO Tour US Open in Milwaukee, with the big rivalry in the men’s race between Jan Frodeno and Kristian Blummenfelt providing a little extra spice.

Frodeno, set to compete in his penultimate race before retirement, has already fired some shots at last year’s IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion, with the pair playing up the rivalry before the starting gun goes off on Friday.

Having both come up short in Ibiza at the PTO Tour European Open, where Aussie Max Neumann came out on top, both Blummenfelt and Frodeno will be hungrier than ever for the win in Wisconsin.

Frodo says he’ll make Blu wait for PTO win

Whilst Frodeno admitted he respects Blummenfelt’s accomplishments and ability, the German also warned the Norwegian of continuing to promise the world and fall short, warning his fellow Olympic gold medalist that he would make sure Blu would be left waiting a little longer for a first PTO win.

“Kristian is always someone who is in good shape and looking forward to a hard battle, and I think this time I’m actually ready to put on the boxing gloves and give him a run for his money.

Blu ‘the boy who cried wolf’

“I totally respect everything you’ve done but it reminds me a little of when I speak to my daughter. I explain to her the concept of crying wolf and when every single time you say “I’m going to win, I’m going to smash you” we’re waiting and we’ve been waiting a long time and I’m going to make you wait a while longer.

“It’s rivalries that make the racing more exciting and you need the clouds to see how fast aeroplanes can fly.”

After finishing second and fourth last time out in Ibiza after a lot of pre-race hype and posturing, the pair will have to be careful history doesn’t repeat itself and a dark horse gets the jump on the field whilst the favourites are too busy watching each other.
