Reigning IRONMAN World Champion Solveig Løvseth produced an assured early-season performance to take second place at IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside and afterwards underlined her designs on the IRONMAN Pro Series in 2026.

The Norwegian was second best on the day to Taylor Knibb, who once again proved dominant on the bike as she controlled the race from the front.

Oceanside is traditionally one of the early-season benchmarks on the calendar, offering significant Pro Series points and a high-quality field.

“Exactly as expected”

For Løvseth, there were no real surprises in how the race unfolded.

“My swim was like expected, I would say,” she said afterwards. “And I’m not surprised that I lost some time to Taylor on the bike either, to be honest. She’s just super, super strong.”

Despite that, she was satisfied with her own ride on a course she hadn’t seen before.

“I hadn’t ridden the course beforehand so I feel like I’m always maybe a bit too safe in the technical sections… but luckily this course isn’t too technical so it was really, really fun to ride.”

Run confidence builds

It was on the run where Løvseth found her rhythm – even if the early stages hinted at a different story.

“What actually surprised me a little bit when I started to run was that I felt really good but I still lost time to Taylor in the beginning and then I was just like, wow.”

But unlike many races, the closing miles brought strength rather than struggle.

“Usually the run gets really hard at the end, but today I just felt good the whole run.”

That consistency allowed her to finish strongly and even claw back significant time late on, a near five-minute gap coming down to just under two minutes.

‘Every second counts’ mindset

With the result effectively secured, Løvseth could have eased off – but instead leaned into a more aggressive racing mindset.

“I tried to get in my Pro Series mode. It was like every second counts,” she explained.

That approach reflects the structure of the series, where gaps directly impact points and standings across the season.

And while the World Championships remain the primary target, Løvseth made it clear she is fully committing to the wider campaign in 2026.

“The World Championships will always be the main goals, but the Pro Series is definitely also a really cool challenge.

“I just want to try to put together a strong overall season.”

After a composed and confidence-building performance in California, this was an encouraging marker of exactly that.
