Tyler Mislawchuk and Zuzana Michaličková took victory at Supertri Toronto, the third and final regular season round of the Supertri Pro Series, with both winners producing the fastest runs of the day to claim their titles and settle the last qualification places for the $800,000 Final in Jersey.
Men’s race
For Mislawchuk it was a memorable home win. One of Canada’s most experienced and decorated professionals, he was roared on through the streets of Toronto and delivered, crossing the line in 51:27.
A large lead pack came off the bike together, the top ten separated by just seconds into T2, but Mislawchuk had the decisive weapon, clocking the quickest run split of the day at 13:12 to break clear and win by 21 seconds from Great Britain’s Solomon Okrafo-Smart, with France’s Nathan Grayel third.
Fifth place went to Jonny Brownlee, the three-time Olympic medallist racing just weeks after his extraordinary Weekend Warrior record at Supertri Blenheim Palace, where he completed 10 sprint-distance triathlons in tight cut-off times across a single weekend.
Women’s race
In the women’s race, Michaličková capped the most consistent Supertri Pro Series campaign of any athlete, following third in Austin and seventh at Blenheim Palace with victory in Toronto.
Kira Gupta-Baltazar, Michaličková and Mackenzie McConagha broke clear on the bike before Michaličková produced the fastest run of the day, 15:52, to surge away and win by well over a minute in 59:34 – the only woman under the hour.
USA’s Annie Fuller ran through for second, with home favourite Gupta-Baltazar of Canada third.
Supertri Final Jersey – who grabbed the spots?
The pros competed over a sprint distance, draft-legal format, with the race also forming a stage of Triathlon Canada’s National Development Series.
The event paid 10 deep, and three athletes per gender qualified for the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey on September 6, with its $800,000 prize pool.
With Tyler Mislawchuk and Zuzana Michaličková already qualified, the men’s spots from Toronto went to Solomon Okrafo-Smart, Nathan Grayel and Nathan Lessmann, while Annie Fuller, Kira Gupta-Baltazar and Mackenzie McConagha earned theirs from the women’s race.
The Supertri Pro Series Final takes place in Jersey on September 6.
