World Triathlon have announced additional World Cups and World Triathlon Para Cups to the 2024 racing calendar, with the venue for the 2024 Mixed Relay World Championships also decided.

Additionally, the governing body awarded the 2026 and 2027 World Triathlon Multisport Championships to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and Edmonton (Canada) respectively.

Adding to an already bustling schedule set for next season, the new additions mean if there is one thing for certain, it’s that there will be plenty of racing opportunities for athletes in 2024.

“The continued commitment of Abu Dhabi with our sport”

Having hosted a regular fixture of the WTCS series and the WTCS Grand Final in recent years, awarding the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships is a sign of Abu Dhabi’s continued commitment to the sport according to World Triathlon President Marisol Casado.

“We are delighted to see the continued commitment of Abu Dhabi with our sport. They have shown year after year the desire to grow triathlon and to host the world’s best athletes in a remarkable setting.

“After years of hosting outstanding WTCS action, it is hugely exciting to know that the Multisport World Championships will be the next top-level event to benefit from the formidable experience and dedication of Abu Dhabi as well as Edmonton in 2027.”

Next year, the Multisport Championships will be heading to Townsville, Australia before returning in 2025 to Spain with Pontevedra hosting the event. Having debuted on the World Triathlon calendar in 2017 in Penticton, Canada the event will celebrate its tenth anniversary back in the Great White North.

2024 World Triathlon calendar updates

Looking ahead to next season, World Triathlon have made a number of changes, starting with the return of the World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong on October 26-27 and the rescheduling of the World Triathlon Cup Valencia to September 14.

In the world of paratriathlon, four more World Triathlon Para Cups have been announced, three of which fall inside the Paralympic qualification period for Paris. Yenihesir (Turkey) will host a race on April 20, then Vigo (Spain) on June 1-2.

From there, Taranto (Italy) will host an event on June 8-9 the following week and then Alhandra (Portugal) will host the final World Triathlon Para Cup of the season on October 12, one week before the Para Triathlon World Championship in Malaga.

Finally, Hamburg will once again host the Mixed Relay World Championships, with the event taking place on Sunday July 14, the day after the individual races at WTCS Hamburg on July 13. This will be the tenth time the German city has hosted the championships.
