Cassandre Beaugrand put in a performance befitting of the Olympic champion as she saw off rising star Tilda Månsson (SWE) to the delight of her French fans at WTCS Quiberon.

Månsson claimed her first WTCS win in Yokohama last month while Beaugrand triumphed in Alghero and we were treated to a showdown between the pair on the run in what was a sprint-distance race, with the Frenchwoman proving strongest as she won her fourth straight event on home roads.

Belgium’s Jolien Vermeylen claimed her first individual WTCS podium in third after being prominent throughout.

Swim – Beaugrand sets the pace

It had warmed up and the tide gone out since the earlier men’s race for the beach start.

And when things settled down we had a trio up front – Vermeylen, Beaugrand and Manami Hayashi (JPN).

Those three continued to lead the way and by the time they exited the water it was Beaugrand who was fractionally in front, just a second ahead of the other two.

There were seven seconds to Desirae Ridenour (CAN) in fourth who was alongside Laura Lindemann (GER) and Vittoria Lopes (BRA).

Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR), who won a French Grand Prix race here last year, was 17 seconds behind in 13th, with Jeanne Lehair (LUX) just behind her.

Månsson was 25th at +23s while 2026 Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen was 39th at +37s.

Bike – All back together

We had a 25-strong front group after the first of four laps – and two of the biggest names missing and 25 seconds in arrears were Leonie Periault (FRA) and Jorgensen.

Their prospects of getting back in touch were much improved at the halfway stage as the gap had come down to 13 seconds.

And sure enough it was all back together on lap three, teeing up an intriguing run battle.

The status quo remained on the final lap as British pair Taylor-Brown and Sophie Evans led the 46-women group.

All of which meant it was Beaugrand who looked the favourite for a second straight win – though Månsson had outrun the absent Beth Potter in Yokohama.

Run – Epic shootout

Despite the numbers there wasn’t too much chaos in T2 and it was Ridenour who emerged just in front coming out of transition.

She was soon caught by the flying trio of Beaugrand, Vermeylen and Lehair, with Emma Lombardi (FRA) and Taylor-Brown not far back in fourth and fifth respectively.

Valentina Riasova (AIN) moved up to sixth while there was real run power in seventh to ninth in the shape of Periault, Månsson and Lindemann. Jorgensen meanwhile had 18 seconds to make up in 18th.

At the end of the first of two 2.5km laps we now had a front group of six, with Lombardi, GTB and Månsson having joined the three leaders.

And Månsson wasted no time in surging right to the front, the pace shelling out Taylor-Brown in the process.

We then had the shootout that so many had anticipated between the last two WTCS winners – Beaugrand and Månsson, with Lehair unable to live with the pace and Lombardi and Vermeylen barely clinging on.

Beaugrand and Månsson both looked way more comfortable than the rest and as we approached the final kilometre they had powered clear.

The Olympic champion has been in supreme running form so far in 2026 and she put the race to bed as soon as she kicked, making it a French double on the day after Dorian Coninx’s success in the earlier men’s race.

Månsson underlined she is a star of the present – and the future – in second, with Vermeylen rounding out the podium in third.
