Long distance triathlon arrives in Girona
After a season of cancellations during which time many athletes have lost sight of their objectives and motivation along the way, triathlon appears to be having a resurgence recent weeks. Introducing here a brand new event for your calendar, the Tradeinn International Triathlon 140.6, which is taking place on 30th May 2021.
This is a long-distance triathlon that is different from other races because of two important aspects for participants: the price and the location.
In addition to this, the Tradeinn International Triathlon 140.6 will share out a purse of €30,000 in prizes, alongside great prizes for the Age-Group winners.
Prices
Triathlon can be a very expensive sport and premium events, in many cases, can be over €500 to enter.
The Tradeinn International Triathlon 140.6 will cost €149.99 with their early bird registration until November (€199.95 if you register between 1 November and 31 January, and €249.95 after 1 February).
The Tradeinn International Triathlon 140.6 is not-for-profit and this ensures that triathletes will have 100% of their fee refunded if they cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is not always the case in the current circumstances.
Location
Girona and the Costa Brava, both well known destination locations for sport provide the backdrop of the event. The roads through which the 140.6INN will pass are favourites for the big training sessions of triathletes such as Jan Frodeno, Sebastian Kienle and Nick Kastelein, as well as being the common location for many World Tour teams who choose the province of Girona because of its tranquillity and wide range of training terrain.
The Course
The swim features a single lap of 3,800m in the open sea at the Platja d’Aro, one of the widest and cleanest beaches in the area. This will be followed by 180 kilometres on the bike, a route that will pass through the important locations of Gavarres and Girona, also passing by the Tradeinn business location, where the organisation will deliver a ‘shot’ of motivation for the participants.
The bike route, which will have up to 4 ascents up mountain passes that are visited by races such as the Volta a Catalunya or the Vuelta a España. These are the Alto de Sant Grau, Santa Pellaia, La Ganga and Romanyà forming the highest points of the race.
With over 2100m of elevation gain, the 140.6INN will be the ideal event for those who like a challenge on the bike stage, but at the same time they will find enjoyment in the ascents while racing against the clock.
The 140.6INN will conclude with the marathon on the maritime walk at Platja d’Aro, a circuit of 4 laps which will ensure the expected 3,000 participants can enjoy the support of the supporting crowds and their families as they tackle the 42 kilometres of the Adidas Runnerinn Course. This sounds like it will provide a challenge that will be worth remembering.
Also, given its location, the event has convenient infrastructure connections both in relation to the airport and to the motorways or high-speed trains from Europe or from the Spanish capital.
Prizes
One of the richest prize purses on the international scene, the first male and female participants will take away €7,000, with a prize of €4,000 for second place, €2,500 for third place, €1,500 for fourth place and €500 for the fifth place.
The winners from any of the 12 Age Groups will also receive financial reward for their dedication in the shape of a €250 voucher which can be spent at any Tradeinn website, the event organiser and a world leader in the e-commerce sector.
Sponsors
The 140.6INN already has the support of leading brands from the world of sport, such as Garmin, Adidas and Nutrisport with more to be announced.
