Despite officially retiring from professional long course triathlon, German legend Sebastian Kienle proved yesterday that he’s still fighting fit in a new style of racing.

The former IRONMAN World Champion, who raced his last professional triathlon in November, competed at the Hyrox Manchester event in Great Britain.

Finishing a creditable 10th in his age-group and 27th overall in a strong field, the 39-year-old impressed with a great performance in one of the fastest growing fitness events in the world.

What can’t he do?

Hyrox, which calls itself ‘the fitness race for every body’, combines running and functional workout stations, with athletes running 1km followed by one functional workout station, eight times through.

In Kienle’s race, the German dropped some lightning fast run times before taking on workout stations such as the SkiErg, a Sled Push and a Sled Pull during the event.

Finishing in a time of 1:09:13, Kienle shared a quick debrief on Instagram, saying “the results are in, someone get me a new bag of excuses, I lost mine in T1. Almost did an extra round of sled pull and death by wall balls: yes I want more”.

Despite having also twisted his ankle before the race, the event seems to have made quite an impression on the multiple Ironman winner, who may have found his next calling!
