profile
Solveig Lovseth is the 2025 IRONMAN World Champion. Hailing from Trondheim, Norway she started her career in short course triathlon. She started racing in the junior series in 2015, stepping up to the senior level in 2017. A multiple time sprint triathlon National Champion in Norway, hints of success on the world stage started to come in 2023 with a 3rd place finish at the 2023 WTCS series race in Sunderland. Consistent performances in the middle of the field saw Lovseth qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she finished 48th in the individual event and 11th as part of the mixed relay team.
But it was a step up to longer distance racing which really showed Lovseth’s triathlon potential. She made her debut over the 70.3 distance in 2023, her first place finish at IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells a sign of things to come. 1st place at 70.3 Warsaw, 3rd at 70.3 Tallinn and 13th at the 70.3 World Championship in 2024 firmly established Solveig as one to watch. But an incredible streak of performances in 2025 skyrocketed her from underdog to top contender.
2025 was the year that Solveig Lovseth made her debut over the full Ironman distance. And that was at IRONMAN Hamburg 2025, where Lovseth showed maturity beyond her years dealing with a mechanical on the bike and the pressure of having two of the fastest women in long distance triathlon (Laura Philipp and Kat Matthews) to contend with. Philipp and Matthews put on a masterclass at the front of the race, but Lovseth’s debut performance saw her the best of the rest – finishing in 3rd. A month and a half later, Lovset was back on an Ironman start line taking the win at IRONMAN Lake Placid.
Then came the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship. The Big Island of Kona claimed plenty of victims, including the two race favourites (Taylor Knibb and Lucy Charles-Barclay). While others struggled to cope with the fiery volcanic heat, Lovseth kept a cool head. Running to an astonishing victory after Knibb and Charles-Barclay both abandoned the race.
Such success so early into the long course phase of Lovseth’s career suggests she could well be a future triathlon legend in the making. Watch this space!
