We featured the event last year (HERE), and on Saturday the Hispaman Xtreme Triathlon (www.hxtri.com) made its debut as the latest addition to the XTRI World Tour, following in the spirit of the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon.

Attracting athletes from 11 countries, Hispaman is a ‘back to the roots’ event providing a demanding course in the Xtreme mould, starting with the swim around the majestic Peñíscola’s Castle. The 180km bike leg included 3,500 metres of elevation gain and if that wasn’t enough, the mountain marathon added another 2,000metres of climbing, crossing the Natural Park of Penyagolosa until reaching the finish line in Vistabella del Maestrat.

“Beautiful but brutal” was how Great Britain’s Michelle Parsons described the bike course, while the marathon was “not exactly a run but mountaineering and hiking!’. A regular on the Powerman Duathlon scene in years past, Michelle is still going strong and uber fit at 52 and was the inaugural winner of the race.

To see what it is all about, check out the images from the race below.
