Georgia Taylor-Brown has suffered a major blow as she looks ahead to the 2024 Paris Olympics after being sidelined by a calf tear.

The British star claimed silver behind Flora Duffy in Tokyo in the summer of 2021, and will be one of the favourites to take gold in the French capital next year.

Her bid to seal a Paris spot though must wait for a little while after she revealed the injury. Writing on Instagram, she said: “Sport fills me with so much joy but it can also be so cruel 😢

GTB on calf injury

“After having some calf tightness over the past 2 weeks, a scan revealed I have a fairly nasty tear! I am gutted. I am completely lost and feel very broken right now.”

GTB also revealed that the injury is even harder to stomach, coming just after she’d rediscovered her love for the sport.

“I always knew it was going to be a hard year. I lost my love and fun for the sport and I just started to find it again but the fight for Olympic selection will have to wait!”

While her Paris hopes are on hold for just a little while, Georgia is remaining positive and says she is in a good place.

Georgia staying positive

“But with all the negatives running through my mind, I am happy,” she explained.

“I’m happier than I have been in a long time, I’m safe and I am excited for each new day and it feels good to say that! All that really matters to me in my life right now is happiness and safety ♥️ There is much more to life than sport 🥰

“What’s next? I’ve just had some PRP treatment to help with the healing & I’ll be staying in Font with my lovely people & fluffy baby 🥰🐶 I’ll spend some time away from sport while I let this calf do what it has to do but I will of course be back when my body is ready 👋🏼😚 X”
