This was our preview of the Olympic Games Triathlon Mixed Relay at Paris 2024 – you can click here for a full report on how Germany claimed gold, USA bagged silver and Great Britain had to settle for bronze.

The final countdown is on to the final Olympic Games triathlon race at Paris 2024 with the Mixed Relay about to take centre stage in front of a captivated global TV audience.

All eyes will again be on the River Seine and the streets of Paris early on Monday as 15 nations each throws a team of four athletes – two men and two women – into medal contention. This after organisers confirmed on Sunday evening that the race will go ahead as planned, believing the water quality will be ‘acceptable’.

Can Great Britain repeat that epic victory from Tokyo in 2021 with newly-crowned men’s Olympic champion Alex Yee heading their lineup? Or will it be women’s individual champ Cassandre Beaugrand leading home France to more glory in front of a passionate home crowd? All will become clear on Monday morning.

Here is a full guide to when the race happens, and how to watch it live on TV and other devices.

Start time and how to watch live

The Mixed Relay will take place on Monday August 5 (water quality permitting), with the gun going off in Paris at 08:00 local time. This corresponds to 07:00 in the UK, 02:00 on the East Coast and 23:00 on Sunday August 4 on the West Coast.

The action in the French capital will be available to watch via media rights holders, which vary from country-to-country. In the United Kingdom, the racing will be available on BBC Sport, with Discovery Eurosport providing coverage across Europe.

Additionally, in France the racing will be live on France Télévisions, with German viewers able to watch the race on ARD/ZDF, Italy airs coverage on RAI while the race in Spain will be on RTVE. In North America, CBC will be providing coverage in Canada and NBC/Peacock will broadcast and stream the race in the United States.

Elsewhere, the race will be available on Nine in Australia, Globo in Brazil, Fuji TV/NHK/Nippon TV/TBS/TV Asahi/TV Tokyo in Japan, SKY NZ in New Zealand and SuperSport in South Africa.

Mixed Relay main contenders

France will head into Monday’s race as firm favourites, with Beaugrand joined by men’s bronze medallist Leo Bergere and fourth-place individual finishers Pierre Le Corre and Emma Lombardi.

Great Britain are likely to be the closest challengers to Les Bleus, with Yee joined by women’s individual bronze winner Beth Potter, Tokyo silver medallist Georgia Taylor-Brown and Sam Dickinson.

Germany are the other team seen as having a really strong medal chance with Tim Hellwig, Lisa Tertsch,  Lasse Lührs and Laura Lindemann providing quality in depth.

The United States had a disappointing Wednesday in the individual events, but claimed silver in the Mixed Relay in Tokyo. This time Seth Rider, Taylor Spivey, Morgan Pearson and Taylor Knibb will look to put their team into medal contention.

There are other potential surprises packages out there with Switzerland (including women’s silver medal winner Julie Derron) and Portugal among those with the ability to outperform their odds.

One team which will not be in action is Belgium, after its withdrawal on Sunday evening following an illness for Claire Michel.

How does Mixed Relay Triathlon work?

Pretty simple really. Each team has four members – two men and two women. They all complete their own mini triathlon (swim followed by bike followed by run). The order now (it has changed since Tokyo) is man/woman/man/woman.
