The opening race of the new-look Supertri Pro Series will take place in Austin today, with Olympic gold medallists Gwen Jorgensen and Tim Hellwig leading their respective fields on what promises to be a Memorial Day classic.

Part of a strong international and American professional line-up, the duo arrive in Texas for what is the first of three regular season events on the calendar ahead of the grand final in September.

Jorgensen, who claimed gold at Rio in 2016, remains one of the USA’s highest-profile triathletes and is currently ranked 10th in the World Triathlon Championship Series standings.

‘I do not want to settle’

The 40-year-old mother of two is the leading name in a women’s field that includes such talents as Slovakia’s Zuzana Michaličková, who finished 8th overall in Supertri in 2025, and Danielle Orie, also from the USA.

Jorgensen was disappointed with her last race when she finished in seventh at the WTCS in Yokohama, stating on her Instagram account: “My run in Yokohama was only 2 seconds from 4th fastest run, which is both encouraging and frustrating at the same time.

“My second lap of the swim was the 5th fastest out of the field, another solid swim and huge progress from two years ago.

“The reason I still chase this at 40 years old is because I do not want to settle. I know I am capable of more. I want to expose my weaknesses, improve them, and continue finding my limits.”

Hellwig leads the men’s field

In the men’s field, Hellwig, who collected mixed team relay gold with Germany at the Paris Games in 2024, is making his way back to the top following injury and lines up alongside Seth Rider, who was part of the USA’s Olympic silver medal-winning mixed relay team in Paris.

France’s Aurélien Jem is also named in the pack together with a host of home-grown American competitors.

The line-up has set up an intriguing challenge of decorated talent squaring off against the country’s most promising professionals on one of the fastest courses on the triathlon calendar.

This season’s new-look Pro Series will see the professional athletes mixing it with thousands of age-groupers when they come together at Austin today and then again at Blenheim Palace in the UK next month and in Toronto, Canada, in July.

The Pro men’s race starts at 07:00 local time in Texas, which equates to 08:00 on the East Coast, 05:00 on the West Coast, 13:00 in the UK, and 14:00 in Central Europe. The women get underway five minutes later.

Coverage of the Supertri Austin Pro Series and amateur events will be screened live and on-demand globally on the Supertri Watch portal, the official Supertri YouTube channel, or the TriathlonLive.tv platform.

Pros racing against the age-groupers

It is the first time that amateurs have had the opportunity to join their elite colleagues on the same multi-lap course, racing on the same day in a draft-legal sprint-distance format.

Three athletes per gender will qualify for the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey on September 6 with its $800,000 prize pool. Supertri Pro Series events will also pay ten deep to encourage athlete development.

Austin is being run in conjunction with USA Triathlon to provide elite development opportunities for athletes ahead of the LA 2028 Olympics.
