Lance Armstrong took his first Ironman 70.3 victory today at Ironman Florida 70.3, his fourth race at the distance this year. "He'll be aiming, and we expect him, to win" was our preview assessment earlier in the week and that proved to be the case with a dominant victory, eleven minutes clear of 2011 St. Croix 70.3 winner Maxim Kriat.

It's no surprise that Armstrong set his race up on the bike, more than 10 minutes quicker than the Ukrainian with a 2:01:13 split. That he added a race best 1:15:56 half marathon to that shows he is a serious three sport athlete, even if the depth of field in Florida wasn't the strongest. As a P-500 ranking event, even the win won't enhance his Kona qualifying ranking either, with his previous three finishes all earning more points due to their higher tariff. A decent finish at Ironman France next month should tick the Kona box though...and it will be interesting to see if he seeks to race the 70.3 World Champs in Las Vegas too, for which he has more than enough points now (five best 70.3's count for Las Vegas qualifying, only three can count towards Kona qualifying).

Jessica Jacobs (USA) is a swift runner - and when you give up more than eight minutes in the water to super swimmer Amanda Stevens, gaining back only 1:21 on the bike, you need to be. Jacobs also had to pass Jennifer Tetrick (USA) on the run, and that chase proved successful via a 1:21:53 half marathon.
