Martin Boddie from Tri Dynamic (www.tridynamic.co.uk) has sent in his camp report from the recent Joe Friel Women Only Triathlon Camp in Barcelona which ran from the 8th-15th April. The camp took place in the beautiful setting of Calella, between Girona and Barcelona, home of Challenge Barcelona.

Female triathletes travelled from all over Europe to attend the camp and to learn from coaching legend and author of the best selling Going Long and The Triathlete's Training Bible. The camp attracted a wide range of abilities from novice to Ironman and each athlete benefitted from coming under the watchful eye of Joe Friel and Elite TrainingBible Coach Jim Vance. Pool sessions took place at the onsite 50m pool as well as having regular open water swims at the beautiful golden sandy beach 100m away. The weather was beautiful with glorious temperatures of around 25 degrees all week. The bike rides were stunning, taking in quiet, traffic free routes both along the coast and inland up into the mountains. Runs took place along the palm tree lined beach front promenade.

There were some dramatic improvements with all athletes seeing PBs coming in the pool under the expert guidance of Coach Jim Vance and big improvements in their bike handling skills. Each evening classroom sessions covered a range of topics including endurance training, training with power, nutrition, the mental aspects of racing and each athlete got to have a Q&A session with Joe Friel & Jim Vance to learn from their experience. Participants were able to use a PowerTap wheel and head unit for the week and then have their data analysed by Joe Friel & Jim Vance, this really helped campers benefit from their expertise. Blue Competition Cycles sent along some demo bikes for the participants to try out during the week including a Blue Triad and Road Bike.

With a fantastic spa on hand there was also time for the much needed rest and relaxation after a long day's training. Official Team GB Masseuse, Aurelie Almeida from TheTriTouch.co.uk was also on the camp ensuring that any aches and pains were easily taken care of. The camp was also supported by Shock Absorber Sports Bras, with each camp participant receiving a free fitting and talk on the importance of choosing the correct size. There was also a very well received master class from TheTriTouch on stretching for triathletes.

Overall the camp was a huge success with the athletes making new friends and supporting each other on the long rides, having fun, learning and improving under the tuition of Joe Friel & Jim Vance. All the athletes made massive progress and surprised themselves by how much they achieved.
