Riixo (ww.riixo.com) produce a range of products that provide ice, heat and compression therapy. The Riixo Calf Cuff seemed like the ideal all round product to test out as it covers all three therapies.

We had the opportunity to chat with the team at Riixo and find out a bit more about the development of the products to the current lineup. Interview coming soon on RUN247.

We recently had a first look at the Riixo Calf Cuff on our sister website RUN247. The Cuffs are available in single or double packs. This makes good sense and provides options – if you are using the Cuffs regularly for warming up and cooling down, then two seem the best option. If you’re using it less frequently for treating injuries, then one might be all you need.

On arrival the packaging is sturdy and has a premium feel. The presentation box contained the following:

  • The recovery calf cuff/cuffs
  • 1x Thermacase
  • 1x Application sleeve
  • 1x Washbag

The whole experience is extremely positive. The product feels rock solid and should last plenty of repeated use.

The Cuffs are available in six sizes. Prices start at £76.98 for a single cuff to £128.99 for a pair. Every purchase includes a Thermacase, wash bag and application sleeve

Our test Cuffs were a size R4 which were a perfect snug fit, working well as compressions guards they provided ample grip.

Fitting was very easy, even without the supplied application sleeve. Who reads the instructions anyway?! Well I will now, as fitting with the sleeve was a doddle, akin to using plastic bags on your feet to slip into your wetsuit (if you’re a triathlete or open water swimmer, you’ll know!).

Another case for reading the instructions came on removal of the Cuffs. Imagine taking a wetsuit off; it’s sometimes tricky until you know how and it’s very easy if someone else helps you. I struggled to remove them and did not want to damage them on my first go. It turns out there is a technique which the Riixo website highlights in the questions section. Removal success! Also, it turns out the Cuffs are very rugged and are more than happy to tolerate my gentle teasing and twisting to get them off.

The Riixo Calf Cuffs offer cooling, heating and compression therapy. A few hours in the freezer or short blasts in the microwave cater for the cold and heat. Simply wearing them offers compression. What could be simpler.

The Cuffs come with a Thermacase; this allows you to prepare the Cuffs in advance with either heat or chill and use them directly after your activity. This keeps the Cuffs hot or cold for hours if need be so you can be away from base and still use the therapy effectively. That is a very clever element as we are not always back at the freezer or microwave after our training or event etc.

Is it worth your money?

After a few tests with the Cuff they have worked exactly as described on all three therapy uses. The quality is very good and so simple to use and fit easily in a kit bag. The fact that you can transport the hot or cold calf sleeves for many hours is a great idea. Build quality so far is exceptional, no stretching of the material or damage from use. Its definitely worth considering the double pack as I think you will use them as a pair more frequently than you might think as part of your activity recovery and not just occasional injury treatment.

A very easy to use and transportable product that will give you a long lifetime of therapy.
