The Aspire is the suit we would reach for on a temperate open-water morning. Sizing is excellent. Once it is on, it disappears. The B-Prene is the reason it feels like a top-end suit rather than mid-pack rubber with a premium badge. Shoulders stay free. The body line is clean. T1 in the shallows was a non-event.

This is a race-day wetsuit, not a 10°C winter suit. If you want a thermal, Zone3 already makes one in the same family. For everyone racing in normal open-water temperatures, the Aspire delivers.

Initial impressions

Premium off the hanger

The Aspire has been Zone3’s mid-to-high triathlon race day wetsuit for years. This current rebuild is the one to buy: 25 panels, 100% Yamamoto B-Prene, SCS coating, one-piece X-10 shoulder in #40 rubber, BRE chest panel, Sensory Catch forearms, Pro Speed Cuffs, Silk-X lining.

Off the hanger the rubber is the first thing you notice. Soft before it hits the water. On the sand it still looks like a race suit — chalk cuffs, clean chest logo, panels that follow the body. It does not look or feel like a training brick.

It sits just under the Vanquish-X in the range. After a week in this Aspire, that is not a slight. This is the fit-and-feel suit in the family, and it earns the ticket.

FIT

True to size, and easy to live with

Sizing is excellent. That was the cleanest note from the test, and the three-angle beach shots back it up.

The suit closed through the chest and shoulders without the usual fight. Seal held. Rear zip sits flat. No crease across the lumbar panel. White cuffs land where they should, not halfway up the forearm.

Men’s sizes run S through XXL with the in-between labels (SM, ST, MT, ML), which is why most athletes will find a row that works. Women’s run XS–XL and are cut for a more natural body line. We tested the men’s suit.

Get the size right on the hanger and this one rewards you immediately.

Comfort & Performance

The stroke stays free. T1 stays simple.

Very comfortable. In the water and walking out of it.

Shoulders stay free on the recovery. That is the 40 X-10 panel doing the job, not a catalogue line. Combined with the B-Prene, the stroke does not feel bound at the catch. Forearm panels leave some feel for the water instead of a blank sleeve. The result is a suit you swim in, not a suit you fight.

On the beach after the swim it still felt like a suit, not a restriction. T1 practice in the shallows was straightforward — cuffs peel, legs follow. For a sprint that is free time. For a 70.3 it is simply less faff when your hands are cold.

Treat it as temperate open water and it performs. Arms and shoulders are 1.5–2 mm, which is exactly why the stroke stays free. If your season is cold lakes, the Aspire Thermal in the same family is the better tool. This one is built to swim.

Durability

The materials are fantastic. B-Prene throughout, glued and blind-stitched seams, YKK zip. After a salt swim this week the suit rinsed off and the panels still looked new.

Treat thin race rubber the usual way — bags on the feet, nails off the seams — and this is a suit you will keep reaching for. Twelve-month manufacturing warranty.

VERDICT

This is the Aspire done properly.

We would buy the men’s Aspire for fit, comfort and the quality of the rubber. It sizes well, it swims freely, and it comes off when you need it to. That is the job of a mid-premium race wetsuit, and this one hits it.

If you need a dedicated thermal, ZONE3 already makes that suit. If you need maximum lift in the women’s cut, choose the cut that matches how you swim. For temperate open-water racing in the suit we wore this week, the Aspire is an easy recommendation.
