Diamond League debut for former European & World Junior Duathlon Champion

On Saturday afternoon, Great Britain’s Alex Yee improved his PB over 5000m from 13:37.60 by three and a half seconds to 13:34.12 at the London Stadium, venue of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Having earlier this season become the British senior 10,000m champion, Yee will be running in Berlin next month at the European Athletics Championship over that distance.

The Anniversary Games – one of two British rounds of the top tier of athletics, the Diamond League – gave the 20 year old the chance to experience this level of competition on home soil and will have been a great learning opportunity for the multi-talented runner from Kent A.C., and a new PB gives him something tangible to take away from the day.

Split times (for leaders)

  • 1000m – 2:44:58
  • 2000m – 5:26:62
  • 3000m – 8:05.67
  • 4000m -10:47.61
  • 5000m – 13:14.01
