Magnus Ditlev (DEN) won IRONMAN Florida in 7:19:17 on Saturday, the fastest time ever recorded in an IRONMAN race – and a full-distance one.
It was a stunning response from the great Dane after he led deep into the run leg at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona last month before coming to an abrupt halt.
He took the lead inside the first 10.2 miles of the bike and rode 3:51:16, putting another world best in play as he reached T2 more than 11 minutes clear.
He then extended his advantage with a 2:33 marathon to finish inside 7:20 in Panama City Beach.
His time was 1:55 quicker than Kristian Blummenfelt’s (NOR) 7:21:12 at IRONMAN Cozumel in 2021 and 1:47 inside the 7:21:04 set by Sam Laidlow (FRA) at Challenge Roth this July. Subject to confirmation, that would make it the fastest men’s time in a standard full-distance triathlon race.
Ditlev takes control on the bike
Andrew Horsfall-Turner (GBR) led out of the two-lap swim in 47:42, with Emil Holm (DEN) and Ben Kanute (USA) within five seconds. Ditlev was sixth, only 10 seconds back, and the first 12 men came out within 26 seconds. Matt Hanson (USA) was 25th at 3:33 and Sam Long (USA) 27th at 3:38.
Ditlev was already in front by the first bike checkpoint. His lead was three seconds there, more than three minutes at 34.5 miles and 6:22 by 57.6 miles. By 89.6 miles he was 9:27 clear of Kanute, and there was still time to add to that cushion.
Ditlev’s provisional 3:51:16 was 2:16 faster than Cam Wurf’s 3:53:32 at IRONMAN Texas in 2025, the previous fastest bike split.
Long worked his way through the field, moving into the top 10 by 57.6 miles and into second by 103.3 miles. He completed the bike in 3:59:59, 11:12 behind Ditlev, with Rudy von Berg (USA) and Kanute reaching T2 within six seconds of him.
An 11-minute cushion becomes 14 on the marathon
Ditlev set off on the marathon with more than 11 minutes in hand at the bike finish and plenty of nutrition tucked down the front of his trisuit.
He went through 6.9 miles in 38:50 and was 13:12 clear by 13.2 miles. The Dane had also led deep into the marathon at last month’s IRONMAN World Championship, where his race unravelled on the return from the Energy Lab.
In Florida, he was still almost 14 minutes clear at 22.1 miles and went on to stop the clock at 7:19:17.

Hanson runs down Long for third
Von Berg and Long were virtually level just past halfway before von Berg edged clear. At 22.1 miles he was 3:20 ahead of Long, who had Hanson closing rapidly behind him in the battle for third.
Hanson had been 4:36 behind Long at 17.3 miles but was just eight seconds back with 4.1 miles to go. With three 2027 IRONMAN World Championship slots on offer in the men’s race, the late chase carried added significance.
Von Berg secured second in 7:33:25 with a 2:37:09 marathon. Hanson ran 2:28:07 to pass Long in the closing miles and take third in 7:35:48. Long finished fourth in 7:38:59.
