The 2022 SLT season reached its climax on Saturday with the Grand Finale in Neom as Georgia Taylor-Brown and Hayden Wilde took the overall titles in dramatic style.
GTB overhauled fellow Brit Sophie Coldwell in a thrilling finish to pip American Taylor Spivey to the overall crown.
And while the men’s title always looked locked in for Wilde, there was still an exciting fifth and final race as Matt Hauser notched his second victory of the series, just ahead of a rejuvenated Jonny Brownlee.
As for the teams that really did go right down to the wire, the Scorpions prevailing by just two points to the Sharks.
The format and venue
The format in Neom was the Enduro – three back-to-back triathlons (all in swim-bike-run order), with no breaks in between.
Each stage consisted of a 300m swim (one lap), a 4km cycle (also one lap) and a 1.6km (one lap) run.
The 90-second rule was in play. So any athlete that falls 90 seconds or more off the leader’s pace at the end of any individual lap is shown the Yellow Elimination Flag and is out of the race.
